Industrial Parks Gearing Up for a Food Fight
April 1,
2009
Concerned businesses
in the Debert Air and Truro Industrial Parks are preparing for a two week long Industrial Food Fight, as their response
to a March 23rd Truro Daily News article regarding a shortfall in
donations to our local Food Bank.
Starting on
April 7th businesses will be competing to collect donations on
behalf of FEED NOVA SCOTIA for distribution to local food banks. The “Industrial Food Fight” is a two week challenge
for all interested businesses in the Debert Air and Truro Industrial Park,
to see which one will generate the most non-perishable food items.
“During
these uncertain times, the food bank needs our support more than ever,” said
Lisa Yorke, CEO of D’Maya Consulting and Management Inc., coordinators of the event. “We are thankful for all of the local
businesses who join us in this challenge.”
At the end
of the two week period, FEED NOVA SCOTIA will collect the donations from all
participating businesses, tally and receipt the results. The Industrial Park with the largest donation
collectively will be named the 2009 Industrial Food Fight Winner. The business that collects the most food-per-employee
will be named the Food Fight Champion, and will receive a plaque generously
donated by Sid Sells Signs, of Truro.
Since a
good food fight always spills over - individuals and businesses not located in
either park, but who wish to donate through the event, can contact D’Maya
Consulting and Management Inc. at 902.641.3111 to find out where they can make
their contribution.
A list of participating businesses can be found
at www.industrialfoodfight.ca,
the official website, created and donated by Belmont’s own iTechworks Web Design and
Networking.

Masstown Market co-owner Laurie Jennings
calls it a humbling experience to win the
National Gold Award from the
Canadian Federation of Independent
Grocers.
“We share this award with all of our
customers, our wonderful staff and anyone else who
has made this possible,” said Jennings
.
The National Gold Award from the CFIG
designates Masstown Market as the most
outstanding small surface retailer in all of
Canada!
That’s quite a feat for an establishment located
in rural Nova Scotia
.
Masstown Market originally won the Atlantic Region
in this category and then went on to compete with
other regional winners from across
Canada
.
Each store entry was rigorously evaluated
on its retail excellence, customer service, staff,
department management, store layout, product
selection, merchandising, creativity, cleanliness,
and community involvement.
Meanwhile, Ed MacDonald, of Maritime Auto
Salvage in Glenholme, is being recognized with an
international award! The
Automotive Recyclers of Canada, a group MacDonald
helped create and currently chairs, has won the
Affiliate Chapter of the Year
Award, which is presented annually by the
Automotive Recyclers Association, an international
organization based in the
United States
that
represents the car recycling industry.
MacDonald says the recognition is a
confirmation of the great strides that have been
made in Canada
in terms of proper disposal of vehicles in the
industry.
Congratulations Masstown
Market and Maritime Auto Salvage, from
the
Truro
and
District Chamber of Commerce and all of its
members!
